Miley Just Reminded Us That Music Is Supposed to Be Fun
“Bass Persuades” doesn’t ask you to overthink it. It asks you to dance, smile, and actually enjoy yourself.

There is something almost refreshing about a song that doesn't seem desperate to prove how important it is. “Bass Persuades” just wants you to have fun. The second it starts, you already know what it's asking from you. Move a little. Turn it up. Stop thinking so much. Dance.
Miley Cyrus has spent so much of her career moving between heartbreak, rock, pop, reinvention and heavier emotions that hearing her make something this happy and inviting feels almost rebellious. The song doesn't feel like it's trying to change your life. It's trying to change your mood.
What I really like about “Bass Persuades” is that it doesn't feel exclusive. It's not trying to make you feel like you need to understand some complicated concept before you're allowed to enjoy it. It feels like Miley is opening the door and saying, “Come on. We're having fun tonight.” Pop music has gotten so obsessed with being cool, sad, sexy, deep, experimental or emotionally devastating that sometimes we forget how good it feels when a song is just happy.

Is it the deepest song she's ever made? Absolutely not. And I don't think it needs to be. If anything, trying to squeeze some huge emotional message out of this would ruin the point. Sometimes a song doesn't need to heal you. Sometimes it just needs to make you get off the couch. The bass makes you want to move, but the real magic is the freedom behind it. You don't have to have your life together. You can just exist for a few minutes and enjoy yourself.
“Bass Persuades” feels like Miley giving music permission to have fun again. And honestly, I think we needed the invitation. It’s happy, it's inviting, and it reminds us that enjoying yourself doesn't always need a reason. Sometimes existing and having a good time is the whole damn point.
